Toy Free-Running
I finally finished the animation!

I’m really happy how it’s turned out - definitely my most ambitious animation to date. Free-running and parkour are incredibly dynamic urban sports which use the whole body to move through environments and trying to imitate the motions and movements with toys was very difficult. Not only that, but choosing shots and angles that best represent the movements but flowed fluently was another challenge. It really made me respect Patrick Boivin’s use of the camera within his animations more as they are so cinematic through careful choice of shots.
Anyways, I’d thought I’d give you a little insight into the production process….and the amateurish conditions I work in, lol.
This is my green screen set up in my tiny room at University. Its littered with toys and what not at the moment.

Free-runners are more than likely flying through the air. Here I demonstrate my preparedness, by grabbing anything to keep the action figure in the air, knwoing that I will painstakingly be rotoscoping the objects out later.

This is when I was animating in my kitchen, with my camera, mac and stop motion software……oooh, ignore those fridge magnets….

But it was all a great learning curve and I’m pleased with the result :) I might make a small behind the scenes video if there’s any interest so we’ll see.
I hope you’re all well!
